The Museumsuferfest in Frankfurt, Germany is the city’s largest annual festival. Taking place on the bank of the river Main every August in celebration of Goethe’s birthday, the Museumsuferfest attracts around three million visitors over a weekend. The highlight of the Museumsuferfest 2005 was the KUNST|RAD, a thematic projection on a 40-meter ferris wheel. For Atelier Markgraph, we developed a solution for the special highlight – a media based superstructure presenting the hosts of the festival, the city’s museums. The huge slide show was controlled by the flow of visitors boarding and disembarking from the wheel.
MAKING OF
MESO developed precision inclination sensors picking up the exact position of the wheel without any connection to the ferris wheel motor control. Inclination data was transmitted via WLAN to the other side of the river, where a computer projected the animations with an impressive array of 4 Barco R12 units sporting about 45000 ANSI lumens in total.
